The new year is upon us and for many people that means setting new personal goals for 2019. If getting fit is at the top of your agenda this year then your swim spa can help you to achieve that essential lifestyle change. Whether you’ve got existing injuries that need careful management, or you just need a more supported way to exercise, working out in your swim spa is a great way to get fit for 2019.

4 ways to use your swim spa to improve fitness

1. Swimming at different intensities

Swimming is one of the best ways to improve your fitness and a swim spa is obviously the perfect place in which to do it. You’ll be able to design customised swim workouts with a home swim spa, tailored to your fitness goals and workout targets. Swimming is an exceptionally good full body workout that uses all the muscles in the body; it burns calories and can also help to reduce the risk of diseases such as heart disease and Type 2 Diabetes. It can help to lower blood pressure and cholesterol and, as water can bear up to 90% of the body’s weight, it is a supported way to exercise.

2. Resistance running

So many people suffer injuries and pain as a result of the pressure exerted on the joints when following a fitness programme that involves running. If you want to avoid that discomfort in 2019, but get seriously fit, you can run in your swim spa instead. You can enjoy the same level of cardio workout from running in a swim spa as running on the ground but your body won’t feel the effects of gravity in the same way. Pain is minimised but you’re still getting fitter with every session.

3. Training with water resistance

Water is the perfect resistance tool for a very effective workout thanks to the powerful current that essentially has the same impact as exercising with weights. Resistance training can be key if you’re recovering from an injury – or you’re training for a professional sporting career. In both cases, using the resistance of the water can be a much safer way to enjoy the benefits of this kind of training without the risk of getting injured before a big event or making an existing injury worse.

4. Engaging your core

A strong core can help to prevent back issues, protect the spine as we age and ensure that we’re able to do every day activities without injury. Great abs also look pretty good on the beach too. You can optimise your core workouts with a swim spa by finding a model with a current that spans the width of the pool. Do your crunches against the current (while holding the side) for extra resistance and much more impressive results.

These are just some of the ways in which a swim spa provides the perfect opportunity to get fit. If 2019 is the year you want to make some serious lifestyle changes, your swim spa could have a big role to play in success.
